Food Behind Bars: Social Media Rebrand

I led a 5 person team to rebrand the Instagram and brand of Food Behind Bars (FBB). During this, I worked closely with the chief executive, Lucy Vincent, through 5 revision rounds over a month.

As the team leader I managed the schedule, held meetings, and created & led our pitch presentations. As a designer, I set the color palette and typography, created mockups, participated in the logo design, and conducted the research, writing, & styling for all post content.

Brand Analysis

I researched FBB's current Instagram profile to determine what direction the redesign should go in. After creating a design plan with my team, I assigned creative roles. I was in charge of the color palette, typography, and created the client presentations with Google Slides. FBB requested we present in a playful and informal way so I structured our presentations with swirling annotations and playful illustrations.

Logo Redesign

My teammate Ioana Vallimarescu and I worked on redesigning FBB’s logo. After we created our designs, I set up an online focus group recruited anonymously from various design forums. Participants were given the company’s description and mission statement, then asked to rank their top 3 designs. No participants knew Food Behind Bars so I included their current logo as a blind option. In the end, a resized and recolored version of the original logo was voted as the favorite. Once the logo redesign passed by Lucy Vincent I made a set of highlight icons matching the logo, which could be used to pin important information such as FBB’s donation link to the top of their instagram while staying on theme and keeping their visuals consistent.

Infographics

I researched, wrote, and set the typography for a series of informative threads made as new content for Food Behind Bars which would fit the new brand requirements, so their page would have immediate content for their relaunch. I wrote the 7 threads on topics of food justice and nutrition that I found most representative of FBB’s mission.  Each thread has a cover slide, illustrated body slides, and listed sources. I was in charge of the color palette, typography, layout, and mockups while my teammate Maleela Hong created the white line illustrations.
